Woodward Society

To promote and maintain camaraderie among the faculty and residents, the University of Florida Department of Surgery established the Woodward Society in 1980 to honor Edward R. Woodward, MD. Dr. Woodward was a nationally known leader in gastrointestinal surgery and was the founding Chairman of the University of Florida Department of Surgery.

The society’s role is to enrich the surgical tradition at UF by supporting surgical research and education and to bind together those who have been a part of the development of the Department of Surgery through the years. The UF Department of Surgery has trained more than 150 successful surgeons in the past fifty years. Many of these alumni have continued in academic medicine while others chose private practice. They have made significant contributions to the field of medicine and have become leaders in the field of surgical care and research.
Their impact extends throughout the United States, as well as
in numerous other countries around the world.
